Abstract
1,179,007. Disc refiners. BAUER BROS. CO. 9 Aug., 1967 [16 Sept., 1966], No. 36625/ 67. Heading B2A. A refiner case 40, Fig. 1, for a refiner installation comprises a tubular waist section 43 closed at its ends by dome-shaped caps 41 and 42, the section 43 having a plate-like segment 45, Fig. 9, which includes an inlet aperture 53, the cap 41 having an outlet aperture 98, Fig. 7, or the section 43 having an outlet aperture 95, Fig. 10, which outlet apertures may be selectively employed. The case 40 contains a pair of disc assemblies 54 and 74 mounted on the ends of motor-driven shafts 55 and 73 respectively. Sealing means are provided about the shafts as they project from the case 40, one of the sealing means being housed in a cartridge 72 movable with the shaft 73 which is axially adjustable by means of a wheel 85 to control the spacing between the disc assemblies. Wipers 90 and 91 are mounted on the backs of the disc assemblies to prevent undue build-up of material. The case 40 is mounted on a base 10 which comprises a rectangular frame, Fig. 2, including plate-like side walls 11, Fig. 3, having upper and lower flanges 13, 14, Fig. 4, the flanges 14 being supported on pads 15. The walls 11 are interconnected by end panels 16 and partitions 21 to provide wells 22 and 34. Screens 18 are provided below the panels 16. The panels 16 and partitions 21 have mounted thereon pads 20 and 28 for supporting bearings for the shafts 55 and 73, and pads 30 for supporting the case 40. The shafts 55 and 73 are driven by motors 60 and 78 the stators of which have their bearings supported on pads 36. The top of the base on each side of the refiner case is capped by a cover 86, the panels 16 and the tops of the covers 86 being louvred at 87 and 89 to permit a free circulation of air, which passes through channels 88 and 88', for cooling the motors.
