Abstract
1,178,734. Tyre building drums. DUNLOP CO. Ltd. 9 March, 1967 [11 March, 1966], No. 11130/67. Heading B7C. A variable diameter tyre building drum comprises circumferentially-spaced-apart support assemblies 10, 14, the radially outer surfaces of which define a support surface receiving carcase plies, the drum being expanded by inflatable bags 24, and fixed and movable abutments 21,19, respectively engageable with the assemblies to limit the degree of radial movement. The assemblies are held in their radially inner positions by noses 18 engaging the movable abutments which are moved axially by bags 27 to permit outward movement of the assemblies to a position where the noses engage abutments 19. In this condition, bags 27 are deflated causing springs 25 to move abutments 21 beneath the noses and lock the assemblies.
