Abstract

117,867. British Thomson - Houston Co., (General Electric Co.). Oct. 23, 1917. Systems for alternating-current motors only.- In electric transmission systems wherein a directcurrent hoist motor M is supplied from a dynamo C driven by an induction machine I, the slip of which is varied by resistances in the secondary circuit under the control of current responsive means, the controlling means are eliminated when the machine I runs regeneratively, driven by the dynamo G acting as a motor which is then supplied from the motor M generating as the load overhauls. The controlling means consist of a torque motor 12 energized by the current coils 13 in the main supply lines, and adjusting a water resistance 14. The generator and motor fields 2, 9 are supplied from a constaut source B, a rheostat being included in the generator field circuit. When the rheostat is moved to allow the load to overhaul rapidly the motor M, two contacts 27, 28 are bridged and a circuit through an electro-magnet 29 is completed; this electro-magnet acts on the torque motor to keep the resistance at its minimum value despite any rise in the current generated by the machine I. In a modification, the extra contacts 27, 28 on the rheostat are dispensed with and a reverse power relay is used energized by coils in the supply mains; when the machine I generates, the relay closes the circuit for the electro-magnet 29 and also short-circuits the secondary windings of the machine.
