Abstract

1,178,496. Antibiotic 11,837 R.P. RHONEPOULENC S.A. 25 June, 1968 [30 June, 1967], No. 30227/68. Addition to 1,057,424. Heading C2A. The antibiotic 11,837 R.P. (Specification 1,057,424) is produced by aerobically cultivating Streptomyces venezuelae var fulvofurvescens DS 7103 (NRRL 3354) or DS 11,355 (NRRL 3355) on an aqueous nutrient medium containing assimilable sources of carbon, nitrogen and inorganic substances. The antibiotic may be isolated from the separated mycelium by extraction with C 1 -C 6 alcohols or mixtures thereof at pH 3 to 7. The broth may be adjusted to pH 7À0, the antibiotic absorbed on a strongly basic anion exchange resin and eluted therefrom with an aqueous alcoholic solution containing an electrolyte. Further purification is by chromatography on a strongly basic anion exchange resin followed by dialysis of an aqueous solution thereof.
