Abstract

1,178,232. Gain control in transistor circuits. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 6 Feb., 1967 [12 Feb., 1966], No. 6281/66. Heading H3T. A gain control arrangement comprises a fieldeffect transistor with means for applying a gain control voltage to both drain and gate electrodes, with respect to the source electrode. A transistor R.F. amplifier is of the cascade type, comprising a field-effect transistor 1, to which the input signal is applied via tuned circuit 7, driving a junction transistor 5: output is taken from the collector of the latter via tuned circuit 6. A gain control voltage is applied via terminal 9 to the base of transistor 5 which, acting as an emitter-follower applies it to the drain, and in part, via potentiometer network 10, 11 and resistor 12 to the gate of field-effect transistor 1. Excess current of transistor 5 is by-passed by means of resistor 14.
