Abstract

1,177,761. Seed and fertilizer drills. A. W. KIDD. 24 Jan., 1967 [24 Jan., 1966; 22 Dec., 1966], Nos. 3083/66 and 57329/66. Heading A1D. A seed or fertilizer drill is provided with tubes connecting coulters to a distributer 18 and seed or fertilizer is fed to the tubes by means of a rotatable cowl provided with a nozzle which is rotated mechanically from the landwheels of the drill the material being blown through open ports in the distributer to the tubes.. As shown a hopper 2 is provided for fertilizer and a hopper 4 for seed each coulter being provided with two tubes, one for seed and the other for fertilizer. Material is fed from the bottom of each hopper past an adjustable slide valve to a rotatable wheel which deposits the material into the bore of an air pipe 16 carrying air at high velocity from a blower 8, the material being pneumatically conveyed to the distributer 18. In a modification (Fig. 4) the cowl 51 is provided with a series of curved flutes or vanes 74 shaped so that air and grain or air and fertilizer will rotate the cowl 51. Material is fed to open ports 60 in turn. (For Figures see next page.)
