Abstract
1,176,668. Heating and cooling tyre vulcanization presses. SVENSKA GUMMIFABBIKS A.B. 28 Dec, 1966 [28 Dec., 1965], No. 57992/66. Heading F4U. A tyre vulcanization press is heated by a hot water circuit and cooled by a cold water circuit, both circuits being maintained at constant pressure by the application of steam to the hot water circuit. As illustrated, the hot water circuit comprises a pump 16 circulating water through a steam heated indirect contact heat exchanger 17 and the press it. A press by-pass 21 is provided to allow regulation of flow through the press while maintaining constant flow through the pump, and to accept the whole of the hot water flow when press cooling is required at the end of a vulcanizing operation. Steam supply to the heat exchanger 17 is controlled by a valve 30 in response to temperature sensed in a chamber 31 connected to both the flow and return lines of the circuit. Steam is also supplied through a line 40 to maintain a constant pressure in a pressurizer 18. A small amount of water is supplied to the pressurizer over degassing baffles 26 by the pump 16. Since the steam supplied to the pressurizer will be hotter than the required water, temperature, water is withdrawn from the pressurizer at an intermediate level 24 to avoid drawing off the overheated surface layer. If a level senser 28 indicates that make up water is required, this is supplied by a pump 3 from a tank 1 which is heated by a preheating steam supply pipe 4. The tank 1 is in turn supplied from a tank 5 which receives fresh water through a pipe 7 and return water through filters 9. The cold water circuit includes a pump 13 and two coolers 12. The circuit is pressurized by the provision of a connection 27 with the make up line of the hot water circuit.
