Apparatus for mixing fluids comprises valves 9, 10 in ducts 1, 2 for conveying the constituents of the mixture adapted to be controlled by the output signal from a pressure controller 5 in a duct 3 for conveying the mixture produced in such manner that the ratio between the aperture cross-sections of the valves remains substantially constant. Transmitters 11, 12 may be arranged to sense the pressure differentials across valves 9, 10 and transmit appropriate signals to a differential pressure controller 13, which, if necessary, actuates a mechanism 16 to adjust a valve 15 in duct 2 to maintain a constant ratio between the pressure differentials across valves 9, 10. The apparatus may be used to produce a fuel gas mixture from natural gas and coke oven gas, the mixture having a constant density, calorific value, or Wobbe Index. To ensure that a constant Wobbe Index is maintained, a transmitter 18 may be provided to sense the Wobbe Index of the mixture and transmit an appropriate signal to a controller 17 to adjust a regulator 14 so as to vary the ratio of the pressure differentials across the valves 9, 10 and so vary the ratio of the volumes of the gases in the mixture in the sense required to maintain a constant Wobbe Index. The apparatus may be used to mix liquid media.
