Abstract

1,175,992. Digital positioning systems. FEINMESS DRESDEN VEB. 2 March, 1967, No. 9913/67. Heading G4H. [Also in Division G1]. A system for positioning a member comprises a mark carrier with a main mark and one or two pairs of auxiliary marks symmetrically arranged about the main mark, a photoelectric device to detect the presence of the marks in a given position and produce a corresponding pulse, a counter connected to receive the pulses and relays connected to the counter stages to reduce speed of the member when the auxiliary marks are detected and stop it when the main mark is detected. A machine tool turn-table is coarsely positioned by selectible limit switches and then finely positioned by a system according to the invention. The mark carrier 4, Fig. 2, carries a main mark and two auxiliary marks 9 and is viewed by a photoelectric head 13 which comprises two photocells 12 which are positioned so as to give a pulse at a predetermined position relative to the mark when the mark is approached from either direction. The output of the photocells 12 is connected to an OR gate 16 to give an output indicating the detection of a mark. The output pulse is fed to the first stage of a counter 17 and when the next mark is detected the corresponding pulse sets the second stage of the counter 18. When the first stage is set a relay 21 operates to reduce the speed of the turn-table and when the second stage sets a relay 22 stops the turn-table altogether. An extra pair of auxiliary marks may be provided so that the turn-table may be slowed down in stages.
