Abstract

1,175,814. Transparent PVC compositions. NORTON CO. 6 June, 1968 [26 June, 1967], No. 27037/68. Heading C3P. PVC articles which are to remain transparent while in contact with liquids, i.e. containers, milking inflations or tubes, having a wall thickness of at least 25 mils. are formed from material obtained by polymerizing a mixture of a major proportion of a PVC resin and at least 5% by wt. of the PVC of an acrylic or methacrylic ester of a polyhydric alcohol or a prepolymer thereof. The ester is a dimethacrylate of tri-, tetra- or poly-ethylene glycol or triethylene glycol diacrylate and is polymerized by milling the composition at 200- 300‹ F., preferably with benzoyl peroxide. Other ingredients which may be added are dioctyl phthalate, epoxidized soybean oil, mineral oil, and stearic acid.
