Abstract

1,175,322. Hydrocarbon soluble organosodium complexes. BORG-WARNER CORP. 25 March, 1968 [30 March, 1967], No. 14303/68. Heading C2J. [Also in Division C3] An organo-sodium compound RNa, where R is an aliphatic or aromatic radical, is reacted in a hydrocarbon with an open chain or cycloaliphatic tertiary diamine or a tertiary diamine in which the N atom forms part of a heterocyclic ring to yield a homogenous hydrocarbon solution of a chemically active organosodium complex product which is separated from any insoluble material present. Tertiary diamines specified include N,N,N<SP>1</SP>,N<SP>1</SP>-tetramethylethyl. ene diamine, sparteine and triethylene diamine. Preferably R is alkyl or phenyl groups. Complexes of the present invention may be used for the initiation of vinyl monomer anionic polymerization and metalation of polymers as described in Specification 1,172,477.
