Abstract

1,175,266. Arylol polysiloxanes; polysiloxane/ polycarbonate block copolymer. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 22 Dec., 1966 [10 Feb., 1966], No. 57589/66. Headings C3S and C3T. An arylol polysiloxane, which may be linear or cyclic, has the formula wherein R is a divalent aryl radical, R<SP>1</SP> is a divalent saturated aliphatic radical of at least 3 C atoms, R<SP>11</SP> is a monovalent saturated hydrocarbon, halohydrocarbon or cyanoalkyl radical, a is 0À002 to 1, b is 0 to 0À1, c is 0 to 2À5 and a+b+c is 1-3. It may be prepared by reaction of the hydrogen siloxane with the unsaturated arylol R<SP>111</SP>ROH wherein R<SP>111</SP> is a monovalent aliphatic radical of at least 3 C atoms having a terminal double bond, in the presence of a Pt catalyst, preferably at 70-115‹ C. in a solvent. In examples, there are prepared polymers of the formulae The last is reacted with phosgene and bisphenol A and 2-allylphenyl in CH 2 Cl 2 and pyridine to give a block polysiloxane/polycarbonate having 2-allylphenyl carbonate end groups.
