Abstract

1,175,260. Electric fuzes. FORSVARETS FABRIKSVERK DIRECTOR GENERAL OF. 6 Dec., 1967 [22 Dec., 1966], No. 55435/67. Heading F3A. Hollow charge missile embodying an electric fuze which explodes the charge at a suitable stand-off distance from a target, comprising a number of piezo-electric crystals 5, the front faces of which are in electrical contact with a plate 4 having a tubular extension 2 that is concentric with, and electrically insulated by an air gap from, a tube 1, the tube 1 being electrically connected to the rear face of the crystals through an integral, flat or slightly conical plate 3 separated from the plate 4 by an air gap, the casing 9 of the missile, an electric igniter 7, a tube 10, a charge liner 11 and an annular plate 6 supporting the crystals at their rear face. When the missile strikes the target, the air gap is short circuited and the explosive charge is ignited. The capacitance between the tubes 1 and 2 can be varied by longitudinally displacing a conical front cap 8, e.g., along screwthreading. If no trajectory safety is required the tubes 1 and 2 or the plates 3 and 4 can be short circuited prior to firing by a member (not shown) actuable from outside the missile.
