An apparatus for exposing and processing light sensitive sheets suitable for the preparation of lithographic printing plates comprises a lighttight container having a window 11 permeable only to photographically safe light, a first source of active light, e.g. a tungsten lamp 5a, within said container, a printing frame 12, 13, 14 adapted to hold a sheet of material to be exposed and pivotable between a first position in which the sheet may be exposed to light from the first source and a second position in which said material may be exposed to light from a second source e.g. a row of fluorescent tubes 17. Apertures in the container are provided with flexible lightimpermeable membranes in the form of a glove so that an operator can manipulate equipment inside the container by viewing through the said window using an internal safelight 5<SP>1</SP>. The printing frame comprises a table 12, a flat vacuum printing blanket 13 and a glass frame 14 hinged at 15 so as to be pivotable to enable a photo-sensitive sheet and an image-bearing surface to be placed between blanket 13 and frame 14. In operation the film is exposed with the frame in a horizontal position, using lamp 5a; after developing and fixing inside the container using the gloves, the image is printed with the frame in a vertical position using the ultraviolet radiation from lamps 17.
