Abstract

1,175,076. Load cells. REVERE CORP. OF AMERICA. April 14, 1967, No.17144/67. Heading G1N. A load cell comprises a generally rectangular block 10, Fig.1 of elastic material having a central hole 26, arranged with its axis perpendicular to the direction of applied force F, and two arcuate recesses 32, 34 in its side faces 22, 24 parallel to and in the same plane as that of the hole 26. Strain gauges C 1 -C 4 and T 1 -T 4 are attached to the walls of the hole and the recesses to raise compression and tension of these walls respectively under load. The gauges are connected in a bridge, Fig.3 (not shown) two provide temperature coefficient resistors M 1 , M 2 , connected to the block 10, being connected in series with the bridge energizing supply to provide temperature compensated measurements . A further transverse hole 36 may also be provided in the block 10 to further concentrate the stress in the region of the strain gauges. The block is also provided with four symmetriccally arranged holes 38, 40, 42, 44 with slots 46, 48, 50, 52.
