Abstract

1,174,981. Automatic bar stock lathes. GEB. WENDLER G.m.b.H. 1 March, 1967 [2 March, 1966], No. 9629/67. Headings B3B and B3T. [Also in Division B5] An automatic lathe for machining wire or bar stock 7 comprises a rotating tool head 3 with a stock guide bush 23 therein, a feed head 2 positioned at the rear of the tool head and a chuck 4 for holding machined workpieces in front of the tool head, the chuck and feed head being connected together by a rod 26 and movable together back and forth in the longitudinal direction of the stock material. The distance between the chuck and feed head is adjustable by means of screws 27. The back and forth movement of the feed head and chuck is effected by a cam 12 and lever 10 from the main shaft 13 of the lathe. A stock holder is provided behind the tool head and the feeding of the stock through the tool head is controlled by the longitudinal movement of the feed head and the sequential opening and closing of collets 14 and 17 in the feed head and stock holder respectively, by cams 16 and 19 from the main shaft 13. The jaws 30 of the chuck 4 are also opened and closed sequentially in accordance with the feed movement of the stock 7 to hold a machined workpiece while it is parted off from the main stock 7 by a power saw 42 driven independently from a motor 43. The actuation of the chuck jaws is effected from the main shaft 13 by cam 46 and lever 36 in co-operation with a wedge member 33, 34, biased by a spring 35. An additional workpiece machining device 6 may be incorporated.
