Controlling from stored information.-A typebar-making or photographic type composing apparatus is controlled from stored information, e.g. perforated paper tape, by the steps of decoding the information, identifying each piece of machine function information and evaluating it in respect of its " time delay requirement " (the minimum time required for the machine to perform the function represented), entering the identified and evaluated information in a store, comparing it with at least one adjacent piece of identified and evaluated information to obtain the minimum or required time interval after which the information can become effective on the composing machine and releasing the information from the store at the termination of that minimum or required time interval. The apparatus according to the invention comprises a plurality of timing circuits where time constants single or in combination generate the delay required for each piece of information, and gate circuitry to release each piece of information from a store at the end of the time delay period allotted to that piece of information. Where two pieces of information in immediate succession are identical a larger delay than between two non-identical pieces of information is provided before the second piece of information becomes effective on the machine, also where two identical pieces of information are separated by a third, different piece of information, a shorter delay than between two non-identical pieces of information is provided before the second identical piece of information becomes effective on the machine. Spurious information, e.g. erase codings, which do not initiate machine functions are recognized and effect an acceleration of information scanning until machine function information is recognized. A delay to information representing an assembler-near matrix is initiated when this information is followed by that representing an assembler-far matrix.
