A rotary, preferably conically shaped, boring head 3 mounted at one end of a mineral-mining machine is formed by cutter armed, coaxially disposed elements of revolution that are rotated at such speeds that all the bits of the head move at. substantially the same linear speed so causing even wearing of the cutters of the machine which also has a loading drum 5 and a clearing plough 18. Disc cutters are provided on the machine for cleaning up both the floor and the roof of a face as the machine is moved along the face.
