Abstract

1,174,787. Aerials. THOMSON-CSF. 20 Dec., 1966 [21 Dec., 1965], No. 57059/66. Heading H4A. In an antenna radiation lobe scanning system, the antenna is formed of an array of elementary antennµ, p.q, each of which has a phase adjuster, 1.p.q in the associated feeder, 2.p.q. Each adjuster provides a predetermined incremental phase charge in response to a computer, 3, to effect the required lobe movement. The computer has inputs 31, 32, 33 corresponding respectively to the desired elevation S o , azimuth g 0 and operating wavelength #. The incremental phase changes do not all give the required lobe direction accurately and error correction is effected by controlling the sign of the incremental changes to each source so as to bring the algebraic sum of the changes, for the source, closest to the required total phase change. The sign control of the incremental phase changes is effected by a code stored in the memory, 4. The sign of the phase errors during transmission is the reverse of that of the phase errors during reception.
