Abstract

1,174,577. Bitumen emulsion. THOMAS SWAN & CO. Ltd. 16 Jan., 1967 [27 Jan., 1966; 22 Feb., 1966], Nos. 3824/66 and 7820/66. Heading B1V. [Also in Divisions C2 and C3] A bitumen emulsion has as emulsifying agent a composition comprising two cationic emulsifiers: (i) a first emulsifier which has a primary or secondary amine group in the molecule and (ii) a second hydrophilic emulsifier which contains more than two primary or secondary amine groups per molecule. The emulsifiers may be prepared separately or together by reacting a fatty acid, fatty acid oil or fatty acid ester or a mixture of these with, for (i), a polyamine containing two or three amino groups, e.g. ethylene diamine or diethylene triamine, or for (ii) a polyamine containing more than three amino groups, e.g. pentaethylene hexamine, or for a mixture of (i) and (ii), a polyamine mixture, e.g. one containing diethylene triamine and pentaethylene ,hexamine in weight ratio 0.2:1 to 5:1. The emulsifying composition may contain methyl cellulose.
