Abstract

1,174,076. Cigar bunches. ARENCO A.B. 29 Jan., 1968 [18 May, 1967], No. 4553/68. Heading A2C. In a method of producing a bunch comprising shredded or unshredded filler tobacco for manufacturing a cigar, cigarillo or similar tobacco product, the leaf portions of the filler tobacco are supplied spot-wise or layer-wise in at least the outer portion thereof with a wet binding agent, and the binding agent is solidified thereafter while keeping the bunch filler tobacco in a predetermined shape. The binding agent may be water in which case it is solidified after moulding the bunch by freezing; or it may comprise wet, finely ground tobacco, or an aqueous solution of polysaccharide such as carboxymethyl cellulose, in which cases it is solidified by drying the bunch in a heating chamber. Another suitable binding agent is the pressure sensitive type comprising rupturable microscopic balls containing an adhesive which are applied to the filler tobacco in an aqueous suspension and which rupture during the compression of the filler in the moulding process.
