Abstract
117,326. Nachenius, H. A. J. de B. Aug. 7, 1917. Rotary chamber pumps; arrangement of bearings; casings; leakage-preventing devices; pumping-machines.-A rotary casing 1, Figs. 1 and 2, having blades 2 draws in liquid through a suction branch 7 and delivers it tangentially through one or more openings 4 formed in the periphery of a stationary discharge and guide member 3, the contour of which gradually approaches the centre as it passes from the outermost point of one opening 4 to the innermost point of the next. The opening 4, which may be formed in a removable hardened steel mouthpiece, leads to the delivery branch 6 through a passage 5 of gradually increasing cross-section. To prevent leakage, the hub of the rotary casing surrounding the delivery branch 6 may be provided with threaded grooves tending to screw back the liquid into the casing. The pump may be driven by a belt on the periphery 12, or by an electric motor fitting on the casing. In a modification, the inlet and outlet passages 7, 6 are formed in the same member 3 at one side of the rotary casing. In a further modification, Figs. 5 and 6, the casing 1 and blades 2 are rotated about a vertical axis on roller bearings 14 by an electric motor 18, bevel gearing 17, and a pinion 16 engaging the toothed rim 15, and the shape of the stationary discharge member 3 is modified as shown. In a further modification, the casing is suspended from a driven shaft. Fig. 8 shows the delivery passage 6 led through the submerged mouth of the casing. The blades 2 may in certain cases be dispensed with.
