Abstract
1,172,918. Microwave ovens. HIRST (MICROWAVE HEATING) Ltd. 18 June, 1968 [28 June, 1967], No. 29951/67. Heading H5H. A microwave oven for cooking food and ensuring " browning " thereof includes a fan 21 circulating air past two metal-sheathed resistance heating elements 27 to give combined microwave and recirculating-air heating. Air from cavity 13 is drawn through perforations 25, Fig. 3 (not shown), in a cover plate 22 mounted in front of the fan 21. A thermostat temperature-sensing element 28, Fig. 2 (not shown), is disposed in the air path for controlling the current supply to elements 27. An adjustable no-load detector 29, Fig. 3 (not shown), is mounted in the cavity wall and switches off the R.F. supply when insufficient load is present in cavity 13. A mode stirrer 17 is provided. A layer 18 of thermally insulating lagging surrounds the metal housing 11 enclosing the cavity 13. Reference is made to a continuousprocess type oven incorporating the invention. Elements 27 and fan 21 may be mounted outside cavity 13 but in communication therewith by apertures. One or more shelves 14 are provided, and are of the wire-grid type (as shown) or of heat-resisting glass.
