Abstract
1,172,891. Optical apparatus; prisms. JUNGNER INSTRUMENT A.B. Jan.19, 1967, No.3007/67. Heading G2J. An optical instrument, such as a gun-sight telescope, comprises two transparent wedgeglasses joined at their opposed inclined faces to form a parallel-faced flat plate or disc 7, the joining surface being part-reflecting and supporting a reticle. Light from the target passes undeflected through element 7, the reticle appearing dark, but in poor light, the reticle is lit by lamp 9 from behind and appears bright. The joining surface is so inclined, say at 9 degrees to the parallel faces, that the rear illumination beam is reflected back along the telescope axis. The system may be used in an auto-collimator in which the telescope is directed at a plane mirror at the reticle is front-lit, or again in a reflex sight wherein a second objective directs light as to the back-lit reticle, the inclined joining surface reflecting light on to a second element 7 in the telescope axis. The joining surface of element 7 may be semisilvered, or the two surfaces may be separated by a spacer to form an air-gap.
