Abstract

1,172,058. Carpets. DUNLOP CO. Ltd. 18 Jan., 1967 [1 Feb., 1966], No. 41105/68. Divided out of 1170052. Heading B2E. [Also in Divisions B5 and Dl] A carpet has a pile wearing surface layer comprising a fibrillated thermoplastic material and a reinforcing layer. The backing layer is preferably natural or synthetic rubber or polyvinyl chloride. A method of making a carpet comprises electrostatically projecting pieces of fibrillated thermoplastic material onto an adhesive coated backing layer and fibrillating the pieces to form a pile. The fibrillatable thermoplastic material may be polypropylene, episulphide polymers, polyamides and polyesters such as polyethylene terephthalate.
