Abstract
1,171,611. Labels. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP. 22 Dec., 1966 [27 Oct., 1965], No. 17619/65. Heading B8F. An animal identification tag has a shank 16, Fig. 1, adapted to be inserted into the sinus cavity of an animal, in which it is retained by means 13 on one end of the shank. A hole is made through the horn material into a cow's sinus cavity, in which the tag, having a flay portion 11, is retained by springy barbs 14. The shank 16 is prevented from entering too far into the cavity by a collar 15. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 3, the shank 26 is provided with an enlarged head 24 both having longitudinal slits 25 and a longitudinal bore to enable the head 24 to be resiliently contracted. The flay portion 11 may be removable and may be hollow containing a flashing light or a miniature radio transmitter. The tag may be of polypropylene or a polyamide such as nylon.
