Abstract
1,171,367. Ligators. OWEN MUMFORD Ltd. 1 May 1968 [7 July, 1967], No. 31419/ 67. Heading A5R. [Also in Division F2] The apparatus shown dispenses resilient O-rings which are used as ligatures in the treatment of internal haemorrhoids. The parts 11, 15, 17, 19 and 21 are first assembled to form a pistol-like structure with part 19 constituting the hand grip, projection 16 from part 15 constituting the trigger and part 11 the barrel. The spring part 17 ensures that the end of tubular part 15 projects beyond the free end of the surrounding part 11. An O-ring (not shown) is then slid onto the conical portion 23 of a mandrel 22 and the cylindrical portion 24 of this mandrel is fitted into the projecting end of the inner tubular part 15, onto which the O-ring is then transferred manually. The dispenser is now loaded and if the inner tube 15 is fitted over a haemmorrhoid, depressing the trigger will cause the outer tube 11 to push the O-ring off the tube 15 onto the haemorrhoid.
