Abstract

1,171,178. Testing fluid tightness. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Dec. 19, 1967 [Dec. 21, 1966], No. 57255/66. Heading G1S. In a sealing arrangement comprising a bellows 1 composed of strips 2, 3 attached by flanges to relatively movable members e.g. in a turbine, water pressure in the passage 4 through the bellows is maintained at a different pressure to that of fluid acting on either side of the bellows, by means of regulator valves 14, 19, such that any leaks of the bellows walls are detected by pressure changes determined by a gauge 22. The bellows may be annular, or formed as segments connected together by a fluid proof zip fastener arrangement.
