Abstract

1,170,688. Perforated drum dryers. E. B. BATES. 22 May, 1968 [10 Aug., 1967], No. 36678/67. Heading F4G. A fabric dryer comprises a substantially closed chamber 10 housing a perforated drum 11 surrounded by a steam heater 14 and in which are adjustably and rotatably mounted fans 19 for causing a heater air flow through the fabric F, the flow being substantially coincident with the width of the fabric. The air is preferably drawn into the drum through the drum perforations and exhausted through the drum ends. The guides 18 provide an even air flow at the drum ends. The fabric is passed into and out of the chamber over rollers 16 and 17 respectively the gap between which being closed by adjusable flap 33. Air may be exhausted from the chamber. The heater may comprise finned tubes running lengthwise of the drum. The means for adjusting the position of the fans 19 may comprise a screw 30 having two portions of opposite hand threads, on which are mounted nuts 29 which co-operate through slip rings 27 with keys 24 on the fans such that on rotation of the screw 30 the fans 19 are either moved toward or away from each other depending on the direction of rotation of screw 30. The dryer may be used with the edge guiding or stentering machine for fabric disclosed in Specification 1,014,765.
