Abstract
1,170,617. Brush-making machines. H. ZAHORANSKY. 28 Feb., 1967 [2 March, 1966], No. 9551/67. Heading A4K. In a brush filling machine, an overload release, in the drive transmission to a tuft inserting ram, prevents the ram from being broken by the driving force, when it has become accidently jammed by the faulty operation of the machine. The release is formed as a slipping connection between a cam-operated rod 28 and a rod 25 pivoted (at 25) to the end of the ram (12, 23, Figs 1-3, not shown). The rods 26 and 28 may be retained against relative displacement, in the direction A, by ball detent 37, 38 exerting adjustable pressure in indentation 41. When the maximum permissible driving force is exceeded, the pivot (45) sides upwardly in slot 54 and finger 44 operates machine stop switch 42. In other forms the head (26a) is retained by friction alone (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown) or by combined friction and interengaging serrations (Figs. 7-9, not shown). In another form, excessive drive ejects fluid from a hydraulic cylinder (61, Fig 10, not shown) against the pressure exerted by compressed air in an enclosure (63). The switch 42 may be provided, in this case, to operate a warning signal while the machine runs on.
