Abstract
1,170,439. Moulding ceramics. WISSENSCHAFTLICH - TECHNISCHES ZENTRUM DER FEINKERAMISCHEN INDUSTRIE. 5 Dec., 1966, No. 54422/66. Heading B5A. Apparatus for the production of ceramic mouldings, e.g. handles, includes a mould wheel 2 carrying moulds 3 and rotated stepwise past a station 6 where the moulds are charged, a station 9 where mould material is cut-off from the mould, a station 10 where the moulding is removed from the mould, and a station 12 where the emptied mould is cleaned. At the station 6 a predetermined length of porcelain paste is extruded from a cylinder 7 and received by a slit-tube 31 which is then driven downwardly thereby separating the paste piece from the remainder and aligning it with a ram 33. Before the ram is moved forward, a slide 36 carrying a paste-receiving chamber 39 with an injection nozzle 41 has been moved forward to abut a mould; the ram then forces the paste into the chamber and through the injection nozzle into the mould, any surplus being extruded through an overflow aperture 42. The device 8 which moves the slit tube downwardly is linked by a cable 43 with a carriage which carries a cutter 45 so that the downward movement causes the cutter to remove mould projecting parts. At the extraction station the mould halves are opened and the moulding removed by extraction needles which pass through a split conveying belt and pierce the moulding which is removed therefrom by the belt. The opened and emptied moulds are cleaned by a brush moistened with cleaning liquid. Direct voltage impulses are applied to the mould to effect detachment of the moulded article before its removal.
