Abstract

1,170,373. Greases; gelled fuels. ALLIED CHEMICAL CORP. 5 Feb., 1968, No. 5719/68. Headings C5F and C5G. [Also in Division C3] Lubricating greases and gelled fuels are made by forming a homogeneous mixture of the lubricant or fuel oil with a polar constituent which is water, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol or ethanolamine or a mixture thereof, and a copolymer of a compound having the formula where R is CH 3 , C 2 H 5 , C n H 2n+1 COO(CH 2 ) m -, C n H 2n+1 OOC(CH 2 ) m -, (-)OOC(CH 2 ) m -or HO- (CH 2 ) m -; n is 0 to 6, m is 1 to 6, m+n is not more than 6, and x is 2 or 3, and a 2-alkyl- or alkenyl-2-oxazoline or -5,6-dihydro-4H-1,3-oxazine, the alkyl or alkenyl group having 5 to 21 carbon atoms. Substances which may be gelled include gasoline, kerosene, fuel and motor oils and other hydrocarbons, as well as other non- polar materials which are liquid or have a melting point below 150‹ C. They are generally present in an amount of 100 to 400% by weight of the polar constituent, the copolymer constituting 0.02 to 50% of the latter.
