Abstract

1,170,134. Printing apparatus. DURCKMASCHINENWERK PLANETA VEB. 30 Jan., 1967, No. 4403/67. Heading B6C. A cylinder 1 adapted to transfer sheets from a cylinder of a first unit to a cylinder of a second one in a multi-colour rotary printing machine comprises a pair of pivotably mounted sheet grippers 2, 3, spring means 32 urging the gripper 3 to rotate, means in the form of toothed segments 10, 11 interconnecting the grippers and adapted to prevent the gripper 3 rotating under spring pressure, and drive means including a cam 38 and a follower 34 on a shaft 14 arranged to pivot the gripper 2 after it has gripped the trailing edge of a sheet on the cylinder of the first unit whereupon the gripper 3 is also pivoted, via the segmental interconnection, to take the sheet from said gripper 2 during rotation of the cylinder. The gripper 3 passes the said trailing edge as a leading edge to the cylinder of the second unit for printing on the opposite side of the sheet to that printed by said first unit. The lever 14 and the segment 10 are connected by a link 18 and the gripper 2 is rotatably mounted on a shaft 6. The gripper 2 is a suction gripper and the gripper 3 is a mechanical one. A further pair of grippers 1, 4 may be mounted on the same transfer cylinder. The positive connection formed by the segments between each pair of grippers may be replaced by a pair of link members (43), (45), Fig. 4 (not shown). The grippers may be secured in the swung-out position by means of a screw (39), Fig. 5 (not shown).
