Abstract
1,170,118. Vectorscope demodulating circuit. BRITISH BROADCASTING CORP. 2 May, 1968 [12 May, 1967], No. 22259/67. Heading H4F. A demodulating circuit for a vectorscope for use with a PAL television signal which allows the +V vector direction to be unambiguously identified on the display in relation to the colour burst vector comprises two synchronous demodulators 6 and 8, one 6 being fed with the input signal and a reference phase carrier signal produced by an automatic phase control loop consisting of a synchronous phase detector 2 controlling a variable reactance 3 across a crystal oscillator 4, and the other one 8 being fed with the input signal and a quadrature phase carrier signal produced from the colour burst of the input signal by a 90 degrees phase shift network 9 fed from oscillator 4. A switching circuit comprising modulator 10 and bistable circuit 11 is arranged to periodically invert the input signal applied to demodulator 8. This switching circuit is phased by comparing the phase of the output of the oscillator with the instantaneous phase of an applied colour burst. Further the switching waveform is so synchronized to the line pulses that switching transients occur when no colour carrier is present.
