Abstract

1,169,863. Washing machines. BLACKSTONE CORP. 19 March, 1968 [21 Nov., 1967], No. 13338/68. Heading D1A. A washing machine has a first vertical drive shaft 23 mounted with its lower end in a resilient member 18 fixed to the machine base 12 and surrounded by a conical member 19 having an area engaging the base and carrying vertical arms 50 extending up to the tub 33 and connected intermediate their length to the base by resilient means, e.g. springs 51, the upper end of shaft 23 being connected to a drive transmission 24 connected by a drive tube 29 to the rotatable perforated basket 34 mounted in tub 33, a shaft being journalled for rotation in tube 29. Member 18 is mounted in a conical part 16 of base 12 which is engaged through pads 20 by member 19. Agitator 38 is mounted on shaft 35. Transmission 24 normally rests on brake shoe 22 mounted on the edge of a conical member 21 carried on a tube 17 surrounding shaft 23. Motor 28 is a reversing motor and drives shaft 23 and thence through a clutch 40, according to its direction of rotation, oscillates the agitator or rotates basket 34 for spindrying. During extraction, unit 24 lifts off brake shoe 22 and rotates with shaft 23.
