1,169,487. Brake shoes and pads. W. BUSCH and H. FRIEDERICHS, [trading as BERGISCHE STAHL INDUSTRIE]. 24 Jan., 1968 [11 Aug., 1967], No. 3682/68. Heading F2E. In a brake shoe 11 having a replaceable brake pad assembly 13, 14, two opposite edges of a sheet metal carrier plate 14 of the pad assembly are bevelled to engage in rabbets 15 at corresponding edges of the brake shoe so as to secure the pad assembly to the shoe and one of the bevelled edges has a notch or recess 17 which engages a pin 18 in the brake shoe so that the brake pad assembly can be pivoted into or out of position on the brake shoe. The brake shoe shown receives two brake pad assemblies which are retained by a leaf spring 20 secured by a bolt 21. In a modified arrangement (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown), the pad assemblies are retained by a U-shaped spring (24) secured by a pin (25) which passes through a pair of spaced eyelets (23) fixed or integral with the body 11 of the brake shoe. The pads 13 may be riveted or bonded to the carrier plates 14. The brake pad assemblies may be removed by inserting a tool through eyelets 22 on the carrier plates.
