A temperature responsive actuating element comprises a multiplicity of bi-metallic elements B 1 , B 2 . . . Bn, the elements each being of partspherical shape and snapping-over to reverse its curvature when a predetermined temperature characteristic for each element has been reached, the elements being stacked in a casing 2 and having interposed between them part-spherical discs D 1 , D 2 ... Dn insensitive to temperature changes, the displacements of the bimetallic elements being additive and acting to move a rod 3. The desired movement of the rod 3 with temperature may be provided by suitably choosing the response temperatures of each of the bimetallic elements.
