[Also in Division B7] The platform of a three-post vehicle lift comprises a V-shaped frame 16, 18 supported from a drive post 60 and support posts 62, 64 and provided with wheel tracks 22, 24, enabling a vehicle to be moved to a position straddling the platform, and with body-engaging pads 58. The pads 58 are slidably supported on arms 26, 28, 30, 32 which are rotatably mounted on saddles 34, 36, slidably supported on the wheel track 22, and on saddles 38, 40, slidably supported on the frame 16, 18. The end 20 of the V-shaped frame 16, 18 is suspended from a nut, Fig. 3 (not shown), on a rotatable screw shaft suspended in the drive post 60 and driven by an electric motor 102. Guide rollers are provided on the end 20 of the frame 16, 18 for engagement in guides in the post 60 to prevent tilting of the platform. Cables, Fig. 2 (not shown), pass from anchorages adjacent the tops of the posts 62, 64, through the frame 16, 18 and down to anchorages adjacent the base of the drive post 60. Stands, Figs. 9-11 (not shown), may be provided on to which a raised vehicle may be lowered to be supported by its wheels. Safety devices.-In addition to upper and lower limit switches in ascend and descend circuits of the motor 102, a further switch which, is adapted to stop the motor in the event of a reduction in or loss of tension in either of the support cables, is provided. When the tension in the cable is reduced, the end of the cable at the anchorage adjacent the base of the post 60 is spring-urged downwardly to actuate a push rod controlling the switch. Means are provided to cancel operation of this switch when the platform engages the ground. The platform is provided, adjacent each support post 62, 64, with a pulley 74, Fig. 8, under which the support cable 66 passes, the pulley being mounted on a rotatable shaft 150. Rotatably mounted on the shaft is a ring clutch comprising a bearing portion 156 supporting a plate 158 formed with an aperture 160 through which extends a rigid bar 148 secured in the support post. The plate 158 is normally maintained horizontal by a jockey pulley 168 resting on the cable and mounted in a bracket 164 which is urged downwardly about a pivot 166 on the platform by a spring plunger 172 and which is coupled to a lever device 162 secured to the portion 156 of the clutch. When the tension in the cable is lost, the bracket 164 pivots downwardly thereby causing angular movement of the ring clutch about the shaft 150, which causes the plate 158 to grip the bar 148.
