Abstract

1,168,094. Herbicides containing cyanophenazines. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. 20 Nov., 1967 [14 Feb., 1967], No. 7032/67. Addition to 1086522. Heading ASE. [Also in Diivsion C2] Herbicidal compositions comprise a 1- cyanophenazine derivative of the formula wherein y is 0 or 1, R represents hydrogen, a hydroxy or nitro group, or a group -OR 3 or -NR 4 R 5 , in which R 3 is an alkyl or alkenyl group and R 4 and R 5 are hydrogen or alkyl groups or together with the N atom form a heterocyclic ring, R, is hydrogen or, when R is nitro or -NR 4 R 5 , may also represent an alkylamino group, and R 2 is hydrogen except when both R and R 1 are hydrogen, when R 3 represents a di-alkylamino group, together with a carrier and/or a surface active agent. The compositions may take the form of wettable powders, dusts, granules, solutions, emulsifiable concentrates, conventional or inert emulsions, encapsulated materials or pastes. Example XXI describes the application of aqueous formulations.
