Abstract

1,167,862. Dental apparatus. D. G. SMITH. 24 Oct., 1966 [26 Oct., 1965], No. 45185/65. Addition to 1,040,296. Heading A5R. Apparatus for recording the relative movement of a patients' jaws so that dentures can be made comprises a pair of recording plates 1, 2 to be fitted into the mouth and then afterwards on models (3, 4) of the patients jaw, and an articulator used for repeating the relative movements while the plates are, attached to the models of the jaws mounted in the articulator. As shown, the plates 1, 2 are provided with pins 14 for attaching the plates to teeth in the patients mouth and on the models, and with scribing members 11 and mouldable material 12 which record the relative movements of the jaws in impressions 16. Mounting plates 5, 6 able to be screwed to the plates 1, 2 and provided with keying legs 7, 8 to be cast into the jaw models (3, 4) are used to secure the plates 1, 2 to the models and a spring 17 may be positioned between the plates 1, 2 to bias them apart. The articulator for holding the models comprises an upper plate 30 pivoted on struts 32, 33 attached to a lower plate 31, the struts being adjustable in length. A device (Figures 8, 9, not shown) said to be known, may be used for positioning the models in the articulator relative to the hinge axis of the patients jaw.
