Abstract

1,167,602. Electro-chemical analysiscorrosion. PETROLITE CORP. Jan. 4, 1967, No.451/67. Heading G1N. To determine the corrosion rate of e.g. steel by polarisation measurements three substantially identical electrodes are used, and the D.C. current required between two of them to produce a 10 m.v. polarization potential between either the anode or the cathode and the third "reference" electrode, is measured. CALIBRATION - by weighing the electrodes during a corrosion test, the ammeter may be calibrated directly in loss in milligrams/square decimeter/day. CELL CONSTRUCTION may comprise an insulating 2" pipe plug with conducting inserts adapted to take “" diameter rod electrodes. The inserts are protected from the corrosive electrolyte (e.g. brine) by a P.T.F.E. cover.
