Abstract
1,167,234. Speed control of D.C. motors. AMPEX ELECTRONICS Ltd., and A. M. HEASLETT. 12 June, 1968 [12 June, 1967], No. 27071/67. Heading H2J. [Also in Division G3] Pulses, the repetition rate of which is dependent upon the speed of a motor 10, are arranged to switch off the supply to the motor, the supply being restored a predetermined interval after receipt of each pulse. The motor 10 is fed from an amplifier 40 controlled by a bi-stable circuit which in one state only allows the motor to be energized. The motor drives a tone wheel 11 whose pick-up coil 12 feeds an amplifier 13, the output of which is squared and then differentiated to provide pulses. The latter are applied to a bi-stable circuit, the transistors 19, 22 of which are both normally non-conducting. The arrival of a pulse renders the bi-stable conducting thus applying voltage to a timing circuit 27, 28 in the collector circuit of transistor 22. When the capacitor 27 has charged to a voltage set by potentiometer 23 a transistor 35 is rendered conducting, causing a sharp pulse to appear at the collector of a transistor 33; this is applied to both a transistor 34, which resets the bi-stable, and another transistor 32, which discharges the capacitor 27 ready for the next cycle. The setting of potentiometer 23 determines the running speed of motor 10 which may, for instance, drive a tape transport system.
