1,167,186. Switching systems for A.C. loads. INSTITUT GORNOGO DELA IMENI A.A. SKOCHINSKOGO. 19 Oct., 1966, No. 46742/66. Heading H2H. The supply to a load 75 from a three-phase A.C. source is controlled by solid state switching elements 4-9 arranged in back-to-back pairs and connected one pair in each A.C. supply line, the rectifiers being controlled by a unit 2 which includes a transformer 10 supplied from one phase of the A.C. supply and having two secondary windings 12, 24 so connected that when a switch 23, situated adjacent the load 75, is closed, a silicon-controlled rectifier 46 across the D.C. diagonal of a bridge 45 is permitted to conduct so that the primary winding 26 of transformer 25 is energized, the secondary windings 27-32 of this transformer supplying the firing potentials for the silicon-controlled rectifiers 4-9, a variable resistor 22 being provided to adjust the firing point of the rectifier 46. The condition of the rectifiers 4-9 may be checked by means of the circuit elements 47-55. In a second embodiment one of each of the pairs of rectifiers 4-9 is uncontrolled, in which case the transformer 25 is provided with three secondary windings only. In this embodiment circuit elements are included to provide earth leakage protection. Local control of the system is provided by a diode 56.
