Abstract

An intermittently or continuously changing sign comprises a plurality of endless bands 4 rotatably carried by a plurality of parallel, rotatable members 6 mounted within the sign housing, a portion of each band being exposed such that the portions together form a composite picture or inscription and the bands being synchronously moved. The rotatable members are cylindrical drums preferably in the form of vertical prismatic shafts, the longitudinal faces of which form rectangular supports for the displayed portions of the bands (Figs. 7-12, not shown). The drums have radially outwardly extending teeth projections engaged in perforations located at the band edges. The rotatable drums each have a sprocket 11 associated with a drive chain 12 adapted to drive all the members simultaneously. The bands may be transparent or translucent and lighted from inside the device or opaque and lighted from outside.
