Abstract

1,166,510. Normorphine and norcodeine derivatives. RECKITT & SONS Ltd. 12 June, 1968 [20 June, 1967], No. 28285/67. Heading C2C. The invention comprises compounds of the formula I and their pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts, wherein Y represents a -CH = CH- or -CH 2 CH 2 - group ;R represents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; R 1 represents a C n H 2n + group wherein n represents 1 to 8, R 2 represents a C 1-8 alkyl, C 2-8 alkenyl, C 2-8 alkynyl or a C 4-7 alicyclic-substituted methyl group and their preparation, where R represents a hydrogen atom, by treating a northebaine of the Formula II with HBr and re-esterfying the resultant normorphine-7- carboxylic acid with an alcohol of the formula R<SP>1</SP>OH and where R represents a methyl group by reacting a compound of the Formula II with HC1 and re-esterifying the resulting norcodeine-7-carboxylic acid with an alcohol of the formula R<SP>1</SP>OH. Therapeutic compositions; with analgesic; sedative and antitussive properties and depressant action on the peripheral autonomic nerve function; for oral administration, comprise compounds of the invention with a carrier.
