Abstract
1,166,417. Control of D.C. motors. S. N. J. LINNMAN. 26 March, 1968 [29 March, 1967], No. 14470/68. Heading H2J. [Also in Division H3] A circuit suitable for providing variable width pulses to a load (e.g. a D.C. motor) comprises a first thyristor T 1 connected in series with the load, a commutating thyristor T 2 connected to a resistive load R 2 and a commutating capacitor C, the load comprising inductance L such that when the commutating thyristor T 2 is fired, T 1 is extinguished and the circuit R 1 , L, C, R 2 rings causing a reversal of current in R 2 and T 2 to be switched off. Thus when the load is de-energized, both thyristors are off. When the energizing period becomes long and thus the off period short the resonant circuit may not have time to switch off the commutating thyristor but only a little power is wasted. The inductance and resistance may be those of the motor and diode D prevents excessive reverse voltage.
