Abstract

1,166,260. Power measurement. MINISTER OF TECHNOLOGY and WAYNE KERR CO. Ltd. Aug.10, 1967 [Aug.24, 1966], No. 38032/66. Heading G1U. An apparatus for measuring r.f. radiation power flux incorporates a resistive film supported on a non conductive substrate and formed as a hollow sphere, with a tube leading from the interior of the sphere to a movable liquid drop arrangement or transducer responding to the expansion or pressure respectively of the gas in the sphere, which changes in accordance with the heating produced in the resistive film by the r.f. radiation when incident on it. The film has a resistance of at least 2000 ohms per, square, and the substrate has a loss factor (tan #) less than 0À005. The film may be deposited on the outside of a silica sphere, in which case a further sphere is provided to shield the apparatus from the effect of ambient changes, air currents &c. or may be vapour deposited on the inside of two polyurethane hemispheres which are subsequently fitted together. An outer shield is not required with this second arrangement. The film is preferably formed from a nickel chromium alloy and has a resistance of 20, 000 ohms per square.
