Abstract

116,606. Boulton, C. S. Aug. 16, 1917. Fixed trays and the like.-In apparatus for drying fruit, herbs, vegetables, seeds, chemicals, fibres, &c., on trays having perforated bottoms through which heated air is passed, the trays F are made to pivot upon angular downward extensions J of their sides so that the under and upper surfaces of the material may be presented alternately to the heated air, and the size of the air inlets D is regulated by the position of the trays. Wedges V hold the trays in the adjusted positions, and the gauze bottoms of the trays are so fixed to the apexes of the extensions J that the inclined parts of the trays extend below them. The heated air passes up a flue C at the back of the apparatus, and through the openings D, fitted with deflectors R, into the compartments E containing the trays. An adjustable deflector T is provided in the flue C, and boards or flaps M regulate the exit of air from the compartments E. Two apparatus may be arranged back to back with or without a partition between them.
