A spray shield for protecting crops when spraying between rows comprises a plate 1 provided with a shoe portion 6 for running in the ground the plate being pivotally connected to the spraying machine by a two rod 9 and a lifting chain 4. A pair of plates may be provided between a spray nozzle and may slope towards the nozzle and be joined at the upper edges.
