[Also in Division H2] In a method of making a high-strength commutator from a tube in which the segments 3 are initially connected to each other by bridging members 4, the internal protruding rib of each segment is radially bisected by the ribs (10) (Fig. 7, not shown) of a tool (11) to form two crescent members 7, whereupon a shaft-carrying sleeve is arranged concentrically within the tube and the space therebetween filled with an insulator, which is then exposed between adjacent segments by cutting off the bridging members 4. The crescent members 7 are formed in a cavity in a matrix (9) (Figs. 5 and 6, not shown) by arranging each rib between two guiding jigs (8).
